The Sound Garden is a mammoth two storey atrium bar in the heart of Fortitude Valley, right next to the Fortitude Music Hall on Brunswick Street. Soaring ceilings with skylights, a seven metre tree wrapped in UV bulbs, cosy booths and a grand staircase give it the feel of a giant indoor garden. Every Sunday the downstairs area becomes Salsa Sundays: a free beginner salsa class kicks off around 6 PM, followed by social dancing from roughly 6:30 PM. Entry is free before 6:45 PM and a small 8 dollar cover applies after that.
The music centers on Salsa and Bachata, and because the venue itself is a food and drinks destination open seven days a week, you can settle in for a meal or a drink and dance through the evening in a comfortable, well lit space. The free class and the relaxed Sunday timing make this an easy starting point for newcomers, while the central Valley location keeps it well connected for anyone coming in from across Brisbane.
